Since 2018, the award has been presented to particularly committed mentors for their exemplary support and supervision of aspiring scientists on their way to a doctorate. In addition to the professional component, soft skills also play an important role. Respectful interaction between supervisor and doctoral candidate promotes motivation and leads to outstanding research results.
The selection process for the award is tied to clearly defined criteria and is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the doctoral students nominate their mentors. In phase two, the participants discuss why their mentor or collaboration deserves the award. At the end of phase two, five candidates qualify, from which the TUM Graduate Council then selects the winner. In addition to the prestigious prize, the winner receives a grant of 5,000 euros, provided by the "Bund der Freunde der TUM".
Jens Förderer was therefore visibly proud at the award ceremony on November 9: " I am delighted with the trust placed in me." Prof. Förderer also approaches his future projects with the same commitment: "The collaboration with my doctoral students always inspires me to think in new ways; only together can we achieve top results."
