Continuous Expansion at Bildungscampus: Establishment of an ETHZ Branch with Around 20 Professorships

  • Campus News

The continuous expansion of expertise at Bildungscampus Heilbronn in the field of responsible digital transformation will soon be decisively strengthened: The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and the Dieter Schwarz Foundation signed a joint letter of intent last week to establish an ETHZ branch in Heilbronn and to gradually establish around 20 professorships in Heilbronn and Zurich.

The TUM Campus Heilbronn welcomes the establishment of ETHZ at the Heilbronn education campus. "We are delighted that the Dieter Schwarz Foundation has succeeded in attracting another top international university, ETHZ, to our educational campus. "I see a great opportunity for us to join forces with ETH Zurich and create a European powerhouse for digital transformation through our collaboration. The positive development and reputation of the Technical University of Munich certainly contributed to this decision," says Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar, the President's representative for the overall development of the TUM Campus Heilbronn.

To date, the TUM Campus Heilbronn has already been working together with ETH Zurich in the Joint Global Research Hub, which includes the Global Technology Forum, an annual congress of AI researchers from top international universities. Helmut Krcmar is convinced that the Joint Global Research Hub will be further developed with the intensified cooperation that is now emerging. In addition, there are many other collaborations between TUM and ETHZ, for example, in the global Open Source "AI Alliance".

"Not only the TUM Campus Heilbronn but also the central locations of our two universities in Munich and Zurich will benefit from the opportunities offered by cross-border cooperation with a top university in Switzerland," says Prof. Dr. Krcmar. He is certain that the role of the TUM Campus Heilbronn as a translation center for digital transformation in medium-sized businesses will be strengthened and that the TUM Campus Heilbronn will be even better positioned for the major challenges of the future, such as digital transformation, by further strengthening the IT department.
