TUM Top 20 in Engineering & Science

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) ranks 16th in Engineering & Technology and 19th in Natural Sciences in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, remaining Germany’s top university and achieving leading positions in Computer Science and AI.

In the latest edition, TUM has confirmed its place among the world’s Top 20 universities in the overall categories of Engineering & Technology (ranked 16th) and Natural Sciences (ranked 19th). It thus remains the number one university in Germany.

The TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT) is also represented at TUM Heilbronn Campus and teaches the following subjects from the Top 50 of the ranking:

• Computer Science: Rank 26

(Rank 1 in Germany)

• Data Science / Artificial Intelligence: Rank 26

(Rank 1 in Germany)

 

The TUM School of Management (MGT) made it into the Top 25 with the following subject:

  • Statistics / Operational Research: Rank 25

(Rank 1 in Germany)

 

The British higher education service provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds conducts surveys in academia and industry on the quality of universities for its ranking. It also determines how often academic studies are cited, which indicates their significance in research. The international research network of the universities is also assessed. The indicators are weighted differently depending on the subject.

In the latest edition of the “QS World University Rankings”, which assesses universities as a whole and incorporates additional indicators, TUM is ranked 22nd, making it the top university in the EU.

Other subject rankings also highlight the outstanding research and teaching at TUM: in the “THE World University Rankings by Subject”, it is ranked 15th globally in Computer Science.
